LEJOG
Saturday 8th May 2010
In the event my venerable friend, Andrew, decided to have his 60th birthday celebration on the Monday after
I was due to set off so I ended up delaying the start by a week and going up to
Ramsbottom with Trisha to wish the old boy well. And a jolly evening it was too,
with a fair number of the old faces from the past present.
Back to business and the following Saturday, the 8th May, I packed the bike and
all the gear in the car and Trisha drove me down to Lands End.
When we got there, late in the afternoon, they wanted £3 just to park at the themed
tourist village they have there so we didn’t bother stopping, just turned round
and went to look for a B&B for the night. We found one just outside St Just – Bosavern,
a bit pricey, I thought, at £40 each but apparently that was the going rate there.
The room had a sort of 4-poster bed with lacy trimmings and an open top – a bit fussy
for my taste but everything was clean and well-appointed.
After we’d unpacked we
drove into the village and had a vegetable curry at the Wellington Arms – it came
with salad and bread rather than rice.
It had been very cold all day, with the temperature barely reaching 10 degrees Centigrade,
and it rained a bit on the way down too. Not very encouraging.
