Beinn Sgulaird
Map
Rain the next morning meant abandoning our plans to do another couple of Munros
in Glen Shiel (A' Chralaig and Mullach Fraoch-choire) and instead we drove back
down to Elleric to re-attempt the ill-fated Beinn Sgulaird. By the time we got
there the rain had stopped and we were able to set off up the track to Glenure
Farm at 12.05.
As before it was a steep haul up the mountainside, although this time, benefitting
from experience, we swung over to the right and avoided the suicidally steep craggy
bits. There was snow above the 2000 ft mark, more having fallen overnight, but I'd
not bothered carrying the crampons today and managed ok without them. We got to the
top at 3.10, the correct top this time, identified by a suitably large and impressive
cairn.

The tops were clear and I was able to look down at the nearby summits which
I'd mistaken for the top a month ago. Andrew didn't like this hill, it being a bit
too steep and slightly dodgy for his tastes. I wasn't over-fond of it either, probably
because of having to climb it a second time, but at least I had the satisfaction of
putting my Munro-bagging record straight. Now I'd done it properly.
We had an uneventful descent after an initial wobble too far to the left, although
there were still some very steep bits where care was needed. Back at the car 5.50.

We spent the night in Inverary again, this time at 'the Old Rectory' (£20), and had
another veg risotto (£8.49) in the George Hotel plus a rather nice apple and rhubarb
crumble and custard. Then we decamped to the Argyll Hotel and played a few hands of crib.
