Ben Lawers
Map
A cloudy day but mainly dry. Pretty easy outing. There is a well marked path from the visitor centre,
no difficult terrain or navigation, and you start out having already ascended 450
metres by car. There were lots of people doing Ben Lawers, including a couple of school
parties, the odd roaming German steaming ahead impeccably kitted out in the latest
continental walking kit, and a girl on her own. Apparently there used to be an enormous
cairn on the top of Ben Lawers that had been built to bring the mountain up to the 4000 ft mark.
Demolished now. Andrew had bad blisters.

We stayed the night in the Logierait Hotel (pronounced Logieray) (£15) in Logierait.
It was the only bar there. The room had a ceiling light and two table lamps but, of them all,
only one worked. We got the landlord to try and fix them - he managed to get both table lamps
working but the ceiling light was beyond him. Air conditioning was by a hole in the window pane.
Some of the locals were watching football on the TV downstairs and
roaring out songs etc at full volume. Whole families were there, though that didn't
seem to deter them from yelling out 'Fucking.....!' etc before their wee ones whenever
they were so moved. I didn't fancy eating there much so we walked in to the neighbouring
village of Ballinluig (3/4 mile) to get something but the only pub there had just
finished food - this at 8.10pm - so after a quick pint we had to leg it back to the
Logierait where we managed to get pasta and chips.
More loud singing and a game of crib.
502 mile drive home the next day.
