Meall Chuaich
Map
The chap at the B&B had told me that the approach road to Meall Chuaich could be ridden along
if I had a bike, saving a fair bit of time, and as I had a long drive home in front of me I
decided to give it a go. After my fine, bracing breakfast I drove up the A9 and parked in a
layby opposite Cuaich. Then I got the bike out and set off along the very easy track by the
aqueduct at 8.25. There was very little gradient to trouble me and I arrived at the bottom of
the hill, a large, rounded, grassy mound, by 8.55.

The route up Meall Chuaich |
A well-defined path leads up the SW shoulder of the mountain and with the going pretty easy
I reached the top, a broad level area scattered with stones, at 10.00. It was a warm day and
although there was a fair bit of cloud cover the tops were all clear; quite a few sunny
patches too. A nice day for a hill climb.
The summit |
I didn't linger long at the top because of the long drive ahead. Leaving the top
at 10.15 I retraced my steps quite briskly and was back at the bike by 10.55.
Set off cycling at 11.00 and back at the car by 11.15, making this my fastest munro
to date - 2 hours 50 minutes including the messing about at the top and locking/unlocking the bike.
The way back towards Dalwhinnie |
Lots of police around Stirling on the way back, on the verges, and the bridges & in
patrol cars and motorbikes. All because of the G8 summit due to start that week at Gleneagles.
