Cycling Down the Rhine

Schaffhausen to Luttingen
We thought we were going to be staying in Laufenburg as that's where the hotel Andrew had booked on
the internet said it was situated, but actually it turned out to be a few kilometres short
of that in Luttingen. Good business for the hotel, I suppose, as there's nothing
at all in this village while Laufenburg has all the touristy medieval bits... never
mind, eh.
The first part of today's ride seemed to be one uphill bit after another, and
whilst of course I normally love the challenge of battling against gravity as
much as the next man - eh, Andrew - the heat from the baking sun made the
repeated ascents a tad less than enjoyable today.

Nice scenery though, including the Rhine fall, a drop in the river of 23 metres,
where the water pours down in the biggest waterfall, by volume of water, in
Europe. So we took a few pictures there then pressed on.
The second half of the ride was easier with less climbing but the sun became so
hot it was exhausting just riding along and by the end I was really glad to see
the hotel, even if it was in Luttingen. Many of the villages we passed through
had drinking fountains running continually, providing some welcome refreshment for us.

We'd run out of Swiss francs by now so needed to stay on the German side of the
border after this to make any purchases.
77 kilometres today, making the total distance cycled so far 235 miles.
