Cycling Down the Rhine
Sunday 3rd September 2017
Bad Godesburg to Benrath
An easy 50 miles today making the total so far 666.17 and giving us a likely end to
the pedalling next Thursday and ferry home on Friday.

As mentioned there was no breakfast provided at the budget apartment we
stayed in last night but without the need to guzzle we were able to get
away by 9.00. From Bad Godesburg we rode north, picking our way through
the extensive urban sprawl of the former German capital, Bonn.

Next came Cologne which Trisha and I had visited on our Viking rampage a year or two
back. It was a nice day and a Sunday so there were thousands of folk about,
wandering the streets and cycle-ways and making for very slow progress in getting
across the city. People, eh!
Lovers' locks still adorn the ironwork on the railway bridge across the Rhine.

We passed through Zons, a pretty, medieval village whose charm has, as often
happens, led to it being completely inundated with tourists. Still a nice place
though. From there a ferry took us across the Rhine and then it was just a few
more km to tonight's hotel, the Waldesruh. Basic but clean, good value and far
above the level of last night's campsite.

That evening we had dinner in Platon, a Greek restaurant - ok.
50 miles today so the overall total is 666.17 miles.
