Cycling the Seine

Day 10 – St-Aubin-Sur-Quillebeuf
Near enough to Lillebonne, best accommodation we could find. It's a pleasant,
basic B&B about a mile from the nearest available food on a Sunday (when I say
food I'm forced to include pizza today. Have avoided it so far but looking like
no choice but to bite the bullet today).
Anyway today was a breeze compared to yesterday's marathon, just 32 miles,
virtually no adverse hills, mostly traffic-free, well-paved cycleways by the
river. And warm and sunny, very nice.

A nice bridge |
Cafe society |
Poppies by the Seine |
Taking it easy approaching Port Jerome |
The ferry to Quillebeuf-sur-Seine |
Passed through a huge Exxon refinery at Port Jerome, vast amounts of tanks, pipes
and machinery for a long stretch, with the smell of petrol hanging heavily in
the air everywhere as we cycled past gasping for oxygen.
Breakfast at last night's B&B was pretty ropey, common enough French start to
the day: no cereal, croissants, bread, cheese, jam and some slices of meat for
the carnivores. Very bread oriented, the French. And sweet stuff. Lots of sugary
options at breakfast too usually - dentists must be doing well here.
Seedy pizza joint |
No drama today, just a good day all told. Our B&B for tonight was 'Chez
Pimline'.
Now just the ride to Le Havre to go, then the train to Dieppe on Tuesday, ferry
to Newhaven Wednesday, and return home Thursday.
The B&B, 'Chez Pimline' |
(NB Where's a good spade when you need one? Not in the garage, that's for sure!)
32 miles.
