Day 7 – Les Andelys
Up to the sound of rain pouring down on our spirits; cold and dismal again too.
With the determination that built an empire we stayed in the Ancient Gits B and
hoped it'd get better.
By 10.30 the rain had become just a vanishing suspicion of moisture hanging in
the air so we starched the upper lips and scampered over to a nearby patisserie
for a bready-cheesy thing to break our fast. That done things were looking better.
Spotted fleeing from a hungry local. |
Coffee stop in a 'tabac' |
We set off and within 2 miles I was stopping to discard waterproofs and a layer
of clothing. As the day progressed the sun broke through and the temperature shot
up until by afternoon it was like the south of France. Roads mostly easy riding
and not much traffic, all very nice. We stopped in Vernon for a while, a very
nice town, and found a cafe there where we could get our second cheese omelette
and chips of the trip.
Got to Les Andelys, staying at the 'Villa Alienor', an old hotel on the Grande
Rue - it had a pleasant tea garden behind, looking over the river.

Once in the room I had a shower and discovered a monstrous bite on my right
buttock. Now harbouring dire suspicions that I have been eaten by bedbugs in
that ...hole we stayed in last night. Grr.
Outraged bedbug victim? |
Had a Lebanese meal this evening, a mezze, which was basically a mixture of hot
and cold small dishes, the equivalent of an Indian thali. Ok-ish. And a Lebanese
beer. Then off for a couple of beers and crib outside a bar overlooked by the
medieval castle dominating the town.

Just 33.4 miles today.
